Development Setup

There are two recommended ways to set up your development environment. We recommend using Docker to eliminate "works on my machine" issues.

Option 1 (Recommended)

Docker Setup

1. Clone the repository:

Terminal
git clone https://github.com/soplang/soplang.git
cd soplang
docker-compose build
docker-compose up -d

2. Run commands inside the container:

Terminal
# Run the shell
docker-compose exec soplang python main.py

# Run tests
docker-compose exec soplang python -m unittest discover tests
Option 2

Local Setup

Prerequisites: Python 3.6+, Git

Terminal
git clone https://github.com/soplang/soplang.git
cd soplang

# Create virtual env (Recommended)
python -m venv env
source env/bin/activate  # On Windows: env\Scripts\activate

# Install dependencies
pip install -r requirements-dev.txt
